Heal our Home, the opening track on our album, Like the Tide, is based on Psalm 104. Like the psalm, it is a song of praise to God our creator and provider who made this planet and all that lives on it. But it’s also dream. It’s a vision of a restored creation -- of animals thriving, and water flowing, and humans caring.
Inspired by the poetry of this psalm, we sing:
Surrounded by light
You build your home
Over mighty oceans
Over mighty oceans
You provide streams
Over hills and the valleys
Animals drink
Wild birds are all singing:
“Spirit come
Heal our home”
Together with the plants, animals, mountains, oceans, we share a home. It is for us all to thrive and inhabit. I am saddened by the lack of care us humans have in our day to day choices and actions and how that directly affects the Earth and all living things. I have a hard time believing that God can heal somehow.
Yet when I read Psalm 104, I can see a different way and so I pray:
10 You put gushing springs into dry riverbeds.
They flow between the mountains,
11 providing water for every wild animal—
the wild donkeys quench their thirst.
12 Overhead, the birds in the sky make their home,
chirping loudly in the trees.
13 From your lofty house, you water the mountains.
The earth is filled full by the fruit of what you’ve done.
Our dreams are our prayers. May we dream what we can’t see.
